COMMITTEE INFORMATION & RESPONSIBILITIES: OTHER PROCEDURES FOR MONITORING THE CARE AND USE OF ANIMALS

University faculty, staff, students and administrators who are directly involved in the use of live animals in research, testing, and teaching utilize information in the Faculty handbook. Veterinary consultation and guidance is available for all aspects of animal care and use. Daily veterinary oversight of all animal projects is provided by ULAR vets in ULAR facilities and other university veterinarians in non-ULAR facilities. The Office of Radiation, Chemical and Biological Safety (ORCBS) monitors the use, storage and disposal of hazardous materials associated with animal use. The ORCBS and IACUC have the option to send representatives on each other's inspections.

The ULAR animal ordering system interacts with the IACUC Protocol tracking system and monitors animal orders for active, correct protocol numbers, animal numbers and species and humane use categories. The Dog & Cat Tracking system identifies the potential for multiple surgery if dog and cat transfers occur on campus.
