RESPONSIBILITIES: COMMITTEE RESPONSIBILITIES
Major Responsibilities of the
Committee
- Review, at
least once every six months, the University's program for humane
care and use of animals.
- Inspect,
at least once every six months, the University's animal facilities
including animal study areas. These inspections are conducted
by a subcommittee of at least two IACUC members and are open
to all Committee members wishing to participate.
- Review,
and if warranted, investigate concerns involving the care and
use of animals at the University resulting from public complaints
received and from reports of noncompliance received from University
personnel.
- Make recommendations
to the Institutional Official regarding any aspect of the University's
animal program, facilities, or personnel training.
- Prepare
reports of its evaluations and submit these reports to the Institutional
Official of the University. These semiannual reports are reviewed
and signed by a majority of the IACUC members and include any
minority views.
- Review
and approve, require modifications in, or withhold approval of
initial, renewed, or revised, applications to use animals in research
and teaching.
- Suspend
previously approved AUF's which are not being conducted in accordance
with the description of that activity provided by the principal
investigator.
